Its that time of the week/ month where we spend a few hours in the kitchen and preparing and cooking the little mans food for the fortnight or month. I bang on the music, strap bubs in the high chair, chop some fruit and give him some raisins and hes occupied with songs and food.
Why I meal prep..
MONEY SAVER! It is SO much cheaper. The not so little man is now 10 months, and if I was to feed him food from ready made pots or sachets, I’d be forking out at around £5 a day and that’s just on lunch and dinner alone.
I know EXACTLY what is going into his food. In my experience Ella’s Kitchen (sold in most supermarkets) is probably the most reliable for no added salts/sugars or any sneaky little nasties.
Tastiness! As I’ve mentioned i am no super chef, but i know from when his dad keeps sneaking spoons of his dinner, it’s past the taste test. The little man loves it. Can’t get enough. Where as with baby pots, he’s just not interested. Sticks his nose up. (Food snob!)
It’s such a time saver. Once its all cooked, life’s made that little bit easier for the next little while. I don’t need to worry about what hes having for lunch or dinner. Simply defrost, heat and serve.
Herbs, Spices and flavour to add
I started adding these to his foods at about 8 months.
- Onion/Red onion
I started weaning at about 5 months, and followed recommended recipes and books. That lasted about a month and I made up my own from there. All my recipes are vegan. the dinners i coom and freeze, the lunch and deserts i make ready. just thought you may be interested 🙂
(Thank me later for this one!) This isn’t a meal prep one. Have to make anything with banana or avo fresh. But Lucas LOVES it. Nicked this one from my boyfriends friend. It was one of his first weaning meals after baby porridge. Avocado, banana, humous. Mush it and serve. I swear he would eat it for breakfast, lunch and dinner if he could! (I started adding the humous at around 8 months)
Potato, sweet potato, carrots, parsnips, broccoli, butternut squash and kidney beans. Adding garlic, red onion and cumin.
pasta, tomatoes, sweetcorn, peas, spinach and chickpeas with garlic and lemon.Chickpeas can be really dry so a little is enough.
Flavour of the month:
His Current fave is a yummy Beetroot Bowl. Sweet potato, chickpeas, spinach, beetroot with ginger and lemon.
Keeps him busy and he loves it. Chop up any of his fave fruits. All over his high chair. He gets to feed himself, experiment with the different textures. and its allllll healthy.
Peanut butter smoothie:
Banana is a must in this one. it gives it the smoothie texture. spoon of peanut butter, blueberries and a sprinkle of cinnamon.
please let me know if you guys try these and how you got on. Also please share any successful nutritious recipes of your own and I’ll share.
